The IDF has completed preparations for a possible strike on Iran and is on high alert. Israeli defense officials expect a renewed confrontation to be prolonged rather than a brief round of strikes. They assess that fighting with Iran would almost certainly open another front with Hezbollah in Lebanon.
Iranian Army spokesman Mohammad Akraminia said earlier this month that Tehran had begun working to increase its missile range. "During this war, we concluded that we absolutely must increase the range of our missiles, and we have now moved in that direction," he told Iran's state-aligned Fars news agency on October 4.
