Iranian officials believe a renewed military confrontation with Israel and the United States is inevitable

Iranian officials believe a renewed military confrontation with Israel and the United States is inevitable and are preparing for the possibility that Israel will launch the first attack, potentially within days and before Israel's October 27 elections, according to Iranian sources.
The sources said Tehran is closely following statements from Israeli and American officials and expects Israel to initiate the next round of fighting, with Iran preparing its response. Iranian officials are also considering the possibility that an initial Israeli attack could be followed by a broader American military operation.
However, Israeli security officials told Channel 12 that they have not identified Iranian military activity that would currently justify a preemptive strike. The IDF remains on heightened alert, and the Israeli and American militaries continue training and have prepared joint operational plans should military action become necessary.
Israeli security officials expressed concern that Iran could misinterpret Israeli military preparations and political statements as indications of an imminent attack, potentially prompting Tehran to strike first.
The officials warned that such a miscalculation could trigger a wider confrontation despite neither side having made a decision to initiate hostilities. They also cautioned against introducing political considerations into security decisions in the days leading up to Israel's elections.
According to Channel 12, IDF Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir stressed the importance of maintaining security stability during discussions Thursday, while Israeli defense officials continue to favor avoiding military escalation in the absence of an immediate threat.
