The IDF is considering canceling soldiers' leave during the week of the October 27 election, a military official said. The official said the proposal reflects the need for readiness during a sensitive period and is not a response to a specific or immediate warning.
Channel 12 initially said IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir had decided to suspend leave on election day amid concerns about attacks intended to influence the vote. The military subsequently clarified that no final decision had been made and that the matter would be finalized later this week.
According to Channel 12, the IDF has increased operational activity and adjusted defensive preparations across the Gaza, Lebanon and Syria fronts and along the Jordanian border. The outlet said the military was monitoring information about possible attacks by armed groups seeking to influence the election.
In its official statement, the IDF said it had issued an alert order placing additional ground forces on standby as part of ongoing assessments across all combat fronts. Zamir warned last week that the potential for escalation had increased amid security warnings across several fronts, saying the military had raised its readiness and was preparing for possible attempts to catch it by surprise.
