UPDATE: The two women arrested in Namibia are not Israeli mother and daughter Mali and Liel Yahalomi, despite earlier reports identifying them as such.
According to Israel Police and a Chabad emissary who personally visited the detainees, the women are reportedly an Iranian mother and daughter who were carrying forged Israeli passports and had identified themselves as Israelis. Rabbi Yosef Rahimi said the pair did not speak Hebrew and communicated in English and Persian.
The earlier reports identifying the detainees as Mali and Liel were based on a mistaken identification. The circumstances surrounding the Iranian pair and how they obtained the forged Israeli documents are still being examined.
