Senior UAE presidential adviser Anwar Gargash has publicly labeled the attempted downing of the flydubai flight to Tel Aviv an "act of terrorism," becoming the first senior Emirati official to describe the incident in those terms.
Writing on X, Gargash praised Indian pilot Smit Machchhar, who was stabbed during the incident but managed to open the cockpit door, allowing passengers to enter and overpower the attacker. Gargash said Machchhar "showed the meaning of courage" by confronting what he called a "dangerous and potentially catastrophic act of terrorism."
