US President Donald Trump says the Flydubai copilot was "perhaps a terrorist or perhaps a whack-job," after speaking "at length" with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu about the incident.
Trump told reporters that Netanyahu and several others gave him an account of what reportedly happened aboard the aircraft, including claims that the plane began plunging before a passenger intervened and helped bring it back under control.
According to Trump, the passenger was a plumber who became involved during the emergency and helped level the aircraft before another pilot took over.
"I don't know if it's true, but that's the story that I got from Bibi and from a couple of other people," Trump said, emphasizing that he was recounting information relayed to him.
Trump also said he had been told the copilot may have intended to deliberately crash the aircraft.
"They said \[the pilot\] wanted to crash the plane, but they don't have that kind of information," he said, noting that the motive had not yet been definitively established.
