Defense Minister Israel Katz says preliminary information indicates that the incident aboard the flydubai flight earlier today was an attempted "jihadist terrorist attack," with the copilot allegedly seeking to bring down the aircraft after stabbing the pilot.
Katz says several Israeli passengers forced their way into the cockpit, subdued the suspected attacker and helped return control of the plane to another flight crew that was on board. "According to the initial information in our possession, the terrorist had one intention: to crash the plane with all its passengers," he said, adding that the attack was thwarted because of the passengers' actions.
