US President Donald Trump says American and Iranian officials held a three-hour meeting on Tuesday on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, describing the discussions as "very good" and "productive."
According to Trump, US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner also met with mediators involved in efforts to negotiate an end to the ongoing conflict. The president expressed optimism about reaching an agreement, saying, "I think that a settlement is going to be reached."
Meanwhile, Iranian state media reported that Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi met with Witkoff and presented Tehran's conditions for reopening the Strait of Hormuz, including lifting the US naval blockade, releasing frozen Iranian assets and ending the war across regional fronts.
The diplomatic developments follow Trump's address to the General Assembly, during which he warned of further military action against Iran if negotiations fail. No final agreement has been an
nounced.
