Iran's Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters warned today that every U.S. base and interest in the region would be targeted by "continuous, effective and painful" strikes if Washington takes renewed military action against Iran.
The joint command, which coordinates operations for Iran's armed forces, said it had received information that the United States decided to resume actions against Iran with approval from some regional countries at a joint meeting in a European country. It warned that regional states aligning with a U.S. attack would be considered partners and could no longer expect restraint from Iranian forces. The statement was carried by Iranian state-affiliated media.
Axios reported last Tuesday, citing two Israeli officials, that the military chiefs of staff of Israel, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, Jordan and Egypt met in Germany earlier this month with CENTCOM Commander Admiral Brad Cooper. CENTCOM confirmed the meeting, saying it hosted senior military leaders from eight nations at a scheduled conference and that they discussed enhancing security cooperation in the Middle East. Axios reported that Cooper told the group U.S. forces would not withdraw from the region and briefed participants on a plan to expand ship traffic in the Strait of Hormuz.
President Donald Trump told Axios on Thursday that he is weighing whether to resume large-scale strikes on Iran. Trump is expected to meet Gulf leaders on the sidelines of the U.N. General Assembly this week to discuss next steps in the war.
