Iran is rapidly rebuilding Taleghan 2 at the Parchin military complex

Iran is rapidly rebuilding Taleghan 2 at the Parchin military complex, a site linked to nuclear weapons development, according to the Institute for Science and International Security. The institute says Vantor Technologies satellite images from September 13 show cranes, bulldozers, dump trucks and concrete equipment working across the site. A tarp now covers the damaged buried structure, concealing reconstruction beneath it from satellites and aerial reconnaissance.
The institute says Iran has added concrete reinforcement on one side of the facility and appears to have completed similar work on the other, providing additional protection against airstrikes. Repairs began in June with debris removal and efforts to seal the holes left by penetrating bombs. Its July assessment identified preparations for permanent concrete caps over three penetration holes, including what appeared to be reinforcing steel mesh.
According to the institute, Israel destroyed the original facility in October 2024, after which Iran began rebuilding it in May 2025 with steel framing, concrete encasement and an earth covering. Its March 2026 assessment found that penetrating bombs reached the rebuilt facility's interior, with blasts collapsing a protective wall and damaging nearby structures. Analysts had identified a cylindrical object during reconstruction that may have been an explosives containment chamber, which the institute assesses was likely destroyed in the March attack.
The institute links the original Taleghan 2 facility to explosives experiments under Iran's AMAD nuclear weapons program in the early 2000s, including testing of a system intended to initiate the explosive charge in a nuclear weapon. The IDF has said the site was also used in recent years to develop advanced explosives and advance nuclear weapons capabilities. The institute says the repeated reconstruction demonstrates Iran's commitment to restoring the facility, but its intended future use remains unclear.
