The IDF and Shin Bet confirm that Nael Abu Obeid, commander of Hamas's Rafah Brigade and head of the group's operations division, was killed in an Israeli airstrike in southern Gaza this evening.
According to the military, Abu Obeid became Rafah Brigade commander after Muhammad Shabana was killed in May 2025 and had since been working to rebuild Hamas's capabilities and advance attacks against Israel.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz said the strike followed the killing of other senior Hamas commanders earlier this week, adding: "No terrorist is immune, and Hamas will not be in Gaza."
