At least one person was reportedly killed and several others wounded in Israeli strikes on western Gaza City
By Sammy Tisser,
At least one person was reportedly killed and several others wounded in Israeli strikes on western Gaza City this morning, following what Palestinian media described as the discovery of a "special unit" operating in the area.
The IDF later confirmed carrying out strikes against "a number of targets" in Gaza, saying the action was intended to "remove threats to security forces." The military said no Israeli troops were injured.
Palestinian reports initially alleged that an Israeli special forces unit had infiltrated western Gaza City and was detected by Hamas. However, the force referenced in those reports was apparently an Israeli-backed anti-Hamas militia. Palestinian media has previously referred to such groups as Israeli forces, while Israel has previously provided anti-Hamas militias operating in Gaza with air support.
