IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir said during a visit to the Gaza Strip on Tuesday that the military would continue acting proactively to prevent Hamas and other armed groups from rebuilding their capabilities along Israel's borders.
"We will not allow our enemies to rebuild their strength along our borders, with an emphasis on Gaza and Lebanon," Zamir said. "We are implementing lessons learned, we have changed our approach, and the IDF will not return to October 6th." He said the demilitarization of Gaza and disarmament of Hamas remained the military's overarching objective and that the pursuit of those who participated in the October 7 attack would continue as a long-term mission.
Zamir's remarks came after the IDF and ISA said they struck and dismantled five Hamas weapons storage facilities and a launch site across the Gaza Strip on Monday. According to the joint statement, the facilities contained rockets, weapons, explosive devices, grenades and ammunition, and had been established inside mosques and alongside humanitarian infrastructure. The military said it issued advance warnings and used precise munitions and aerial surveillance to reduce the risk to civilians. Israeli forces remain deployed in Gaza under the ceasefire framework and will continue operating against threats the military considers immediate, the statement said.
