U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said Washington is not ruling out further military strikes in the Strait of Hormuz or around Iran as the Trump administration intensifies economic pressure on Tehran. "By no means are we foreclosing using kinetic strikes anywhere in the Strait of Hormuz or around Iran," Hegseth told reporters Monday. He said the United States would respond if Iran threatened the American military, but added that economic pressure was currently hurting Tehran most.
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent announced Operation Economic Outcast, a campaign intended to isolate Iran from the global economy. "Our objective is to sever every economic lifeline that sustains this tyrannical regime until Tehran stands alone," Bessent said. He warned that entities facilitating Iranian money laundering would be removed from the U.S. dollar system, while governments and businesses continuing economic cooperation with Tehran would face deadlines to sever those ties or risk U.S. sanctions.
