A military airfield deep in northwestern Syria came under attack overnight, with Arab media reporting that unidentified fighter jets struck the runway at Abu al-Zuhour Military Airport near Idlib.
Four strikes reportedly hit the runway, according to Al Jazeera, while Al Hadath said the attack was believed to have been carried out by Israel. The airbase sits not far from Syria's border with Turkey. Israel has not commented on the reports.
The strike comes amid Israeli concerns over growing Turkish military influence in Syria. Israel has previously targeted Syrian military infrastructure reportedly to prevent Turkey from helping expand the capabilities of the new Syrian government. If Israel is confirmed to have carried out the attack, it would be the first Israeli airstrike reported in Syria since March 2026.
