Israel and Venezuela have agreed to restore official consular coordination after 17 years without diplomatic relations.
The breakthrough followed recent talks between Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar and Venezuelan Foreign Minister Félix Plasencia. The two sides agreed to create a formal mechanism for handling consular matters and assisting citizens of both countries.
Israel and Venezuela have lacked diplomatic ties since 2009, making the agreement the first official channel of coordination between the governments in nearly two decades.
