U.S. President Donald Trump says the United States was "locked and loaded" for a major military strike against Iran, but has agreed to hold off after receiving a request from Iran and other Middle Eastern countries, claiming negotiators have agreed on the framework of a potential deal.
Trump says the proposed agreement includes the "immediate, complete, and total" reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and an end to Iran's nuclear threat. He added that he decided to cancel the planned attack "subject to being able to rapidly make a DEAL," saying Israel has joined the commitment.
"We have just been asked by Iran, and other Middle Eastern Countries, to hold off any attack," Trump wrote. "Get to work, everybody, and get it DONE."
