The United States and Saudi Arabia have signed a civil nuclear cooperation agreement that US officials say establishes the legal framework for a long-term, multi-billion-dollar partnership focused on peaceful nuclear energy and nuclear nonproliferation. The agreement was signed by US Energy Secretary Chris Wright and Saudi Energy Minister Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman, alongside a separate safeguards deal.
Following the signing, US President Donald Trump said the agreement will only be approved if Saudi Arabia normalizes relations with Israel by joining the Abraham Accords. In a Truth Social post, Trump stressed that the deal is strictly for civilian use and declared that "there will be no enrichment of material," indicating that Saudi Arabia will not be permitted to enrich uranium on its own soil. The agreement has also raised concerns among Israeli officials.
