The United Kingdom has updated its travel guidance for the Middle East
By Bernard Moerdler,
The United Kingdom has updated its travel guidance for the Middle East, warning of a risk of further attacks and unforeseen escalation across the region, the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office said today.
The FCDO said that while the United States and Iran announced a memorandum of understanding on June 17 regarding the conflict, the situation in the region remains unpredictable. Since July 8 there have been strikes and Iranian retaliatory attacks in a number of locations across the region, including Oman, against US military and civilian infrastructure, the FCDO said. It noted that before the ceasefire, the Iranian government had stated its intention to target locations associated with the United States and Israel, including organizations, businesses, facilities and institutions.
The FCDO advised that British nationals in the Middle East should be prepared for possible flight cancellations, periodic airspace closures and travel disruptions.
