Overnight and into Sunday morning, the US military says it carried out an eighth consecutive night of airstrikes against Iran, targeting forces it says were behind the deadly attack on American troops in Jordan. CENTCOM says the operation also struck Iranian coastal surveillance sites, air defense systems, maritime capabilities, and missile and drone storage facilities to further degrade Tehran's military capabilities. The Pentagon previously confirmed that two US service members were killed, four were wounded, and another remains missing after Iran's ballistic missile attack in Jordan.
Iran says it responded by launching what it described as "large-scale" drone attacks on US military facilities in Kuwait, claiming it targeted Camp Udairi and Ali Al Salem Air Base, including ammunition depots, Patriot radar systems, and air surveillance equipment. Hours later, Kuwait's military reported another missile and drone attack, saying air defense systems were intercepting the incoming threats. Bahrain also activated air raid sirens, urging residents to seek shelter as the latest exchange of strikes continued.
Meanwhile, Iranian state media reports that several locations in Hormozgan province were targeted overnight, including areas near Sirik, Hajiabad, Qeshm Island, and Bandar Abbas along the Strait of Hormuz, with explosions heard across the region.
Also overnight, a drone strike hit a camp belonging to the Iranian Kurdish opposition group Kurdistan Freedom Party (PAK) near Irbil in Iraq's Kurdistan region, wounding eight members, according to the group, which blamed Iran for the attack. Air defenses were activated over Irbil as explosions were heard before dawn, prompting Kurdish officials to condemn what they described as another escalation against opposition groups operating in northern Iraq.
