The Middle East saw another major escalation overnight as Iran launched fresh attacks across the Gulf

By Sammy Tisser,

The Middle East saw another major escalation overnight as Iran launched fresh attacks across the Gulf following a sixth consecutive night of US strikes ordered by President Donald Trump. The US Central Command said American fighter jets, drones, and warships struck dozens of Iranian military targets, including coastal surveillance sites, air defense systems, maritime capabilities, and military logistics infrastructure.

In response, Kuwait said its air defenses engaged incoming missiles and drones, describing them as "hostile" attacks, while Bahrain activated warning sirens and urged residents to take shelter. Qatar also reported intercepting a missile after several explosions were heard over Doha. Iranian state media claimed the attacks targeted US military facilities in Kuwait and Bahrain in retaliation for American strikes on Iranian territory.

Iran also said it expanded its response beyond the Gulf, with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps claiming it struck a US special operations command center at al-Tanf in Syria and destroyed two American radar sites in Oman. The Guards further declared that Iran retains full control of the Strait of Hormuz and warned that no oil or gas would be exported through the strategic waterway while US attacks continue. Reuters could not independently verify those claims.

Elsewhere, Jordan said it intercepted three Iranian missiles without reports of casualties or damage, while the US-led coalition shot down eight explosive drones over Erbil in northern Iraq. Separately, an exiled Iranian Kurdish opposition group accused Tehran of carrying out drone and rocket strikes on one of its camps near Sulaimaniyah, saying eight of its members were killed. Iranian state media also reported that overnight US strikes on infrastructure in southern and western Iran killed eight people and wounded 20, including attacks on six bridges in Hormozgan province near the Strait of Hormuz.
