Overnight, the US military carried out another wave of strikes on Iran, targeting command centers, air defense systems, missile and drone infrastructure, coastal surveillance facilities, and additional sites around Tehran, Semnan province, and Bandar Abbas, home to Iran's largest port and key naval and Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps assets on the Strait of Hormuz. In a statement, US Central Command says the operation was conducted at the direction of President Donald Trump.
CENTCOM also says US forces disabled an unladen commercial oil tanker attempting to reach an Iranian port in violation of the American blockade. After the vessel ignored repeated warnings, a US aircraft fired Hellfire missiles into its smokestack, leaving it unable to continue its journey.
Iran says it responded overnight by launching drone attacks on US military facilities in Jordan, Kuwait, and Bahrain. Iranian state media reports the army targeted communications systems, fuel storage facilities, radar systems, a Patriot air defense battery at Kuwait's Ali Al Salem Air Base, and US facilities at Bahrain's Sheikh Isa Air Base. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps also claims it launched two waves of ballistic missiles at a US air base in Jordan, alleging the base had been used by US forces to strike areas near a children's cancer hospital in Iran.
As the attacks unfolded, Kuwait's military said it intercepted Iranian drones, describing them as "hostile drone attacks following the nefarious Iranian aggression," while Bahrain's interior ministry sounded air raid sirens and urged residents to "remain calm and head to the nearest safe place." Jordan also says it intercepted eight Iranian missiles that entered its airspace.
