President Trump said the United States would strike Iran hard tonight and tomorrow, in an interview on the Hugh Hewitt Show. Trump said the memorandum of understanding the United States had signed with Iran "was a test, and they did not comply with it."
Asked whether the United States was looking to target Pickaxe Mountain, Trump said there was a chance. "Pickaxe is a possible target for a nice, big, fat shot right in the front door," he said. Pickaxe Mountain, or Kuh-e Kolang Gaz La, is a deeply buried tunnel complex about a mile south of Iran's Natanz nuclear site that Tehran has been building since 2020 and to which IAEA inspectors have never been granted access. Analysts assess it may be intended to store Iran's stockpile of near weapons grade enriched uranium or to allow covert enrichment, and it was left untouched in earlier strikes on Iran's nuclear program. Trump called Iran's leadership "violent" and said his administration wanted to help the Iranian people, telling them, "We have people ready, willing, and able, but they have to know what you want to do, and that's up to you."
