Maritime traffic to and from Iranian ports will again be subject to a US naval blockade starting late Monday night local time, after President Donald Trump ordered the measure to resume.
US Central Command says the blockade will take effect at 4 p.m. ET on July 14 (11 p.m. Israel time, 11:30 p.m. in Iran), with US forces enforcing restrictions on vessels entering or leaving Iranian ports and coastal areas. CENTCOM adds that ships not violating the blockade will still be able to transit the Strait of Hormuz and other regional waters. The US had previously maintained the blockade from April 13 to June 18, while shipping in the region has been repeatedly disrupted by Iranian attacks and threats against commercial vessels.
