U.S. Central Command said it began a fresh wave of strikes against Iran at 5 p.m. Eastern time today, in an operation it said was intended to further degrade Iran's ability to attack civilian mariners and commercial ships transiting the Strait of Hormuz. The command said President Trump, as commander in chief, directed the strikes to hold Iranian forces accountable.
Explosions were reported across multiple areas of southern Iran as the strikes got under way. Bandar Abbas air base, home to the Iranian air force's 9th Tactical Air Base in Hormozgan Province, was struck by several projectiles, according to sources, and at least 10 explosions were reported in the Bandar Abbas area, about five on Qeshm Island, and further blasts near Kangan, near Sirik in Hormozgan Province, and in Bushehr.
