Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Navy declared the Strait of Hormuz closed until further notice, Iranian state media reported, saying no vessels will be permitted to move until what it called U.S. interventions in the area end. The IRGC Navy said it had fired warning shots at a ship that ignored instructions to follow an approved route and had turned off its systems, stopping the vessel. The Guard did not identify the ship and gave no word on its flag, crew, or condition.
The IRGC Navy said the closure followed warnings that foreign interference in shipping routes through the strait would meet what it described as decisive action. It said any further U.S. action would be answered "with severity" and that "new enemy bases in the region" would be targeted, adding that the consequences would rest with what it called the "American-Zionist enemy" and the countries hosting U.S. forces. BNN was not able to independently verify the account of the ship's stopping, and U.S. Central Command did not immediately comment.
