US President Donald Trump says the United States has agreed to resume talks with Iran after Tehran requested negotiations continue, despite declaring that the ceasefire is "OVER."
The remarks come as Qatar, Pakistan and other mediators work to salvage last month's memorandum of understanding between Washington and Tehran. A Qatari delegation reportedly traveled to Iran on Friday in a visit coordinated with the US, while diplomats told Axios both sides are still seeking a return to the agreement. The outlet also reported that negotiators had been making progress toward a nuclear deal before the latest escalation.
In a Truth Social post, Trump said Washington agreed to continue negotiations, but made clear to Iran "in no uncertain terms" that the ceasefire is over. His comments contrast with signals from the White House a day earlier that the US was still willing to uphold the memorandum if Iran also complied with its commitments.
