Israeli troops killed a Hezbollah gunman who opened fire on them during a search operation in the southern Lebanese town of Bint Jbeil on Tuesday, the IDF said. A military dog from the Oketz canine unit was killed in the exchange, and the dog's handler, a female combat soldier operating with the reservists, returned fire and killed the gunman. No soldiers were injured.

The troops, from the 679th Yiftah Armored Brigade, were searching a building where a Hezbollah operative had opened fire the previous Thursday and seriously wounded a reservist, the military said. The IDF said it would continue operating to remove threats to its forces and to prevent Hezbollah from harming Israeli civilians.
