Iran is carrying out a missile and drone attack on Bahrain and Kuwait
By Bernard Moerdler,
Iran is carrying out a missile and drone attack on Bahrain and Kuwait, and both Gulf states say their air defenses are responding to the incoming fire. The General Staff of the Kuwaiti Armed Forces said its air defenses are engaging hostile missile and drone threats and that any explosions heard are the result of interceptions, urging the public to follow official safety instructions. Bahrain's Interior Ministry activated warning sirens and told citizens and residents to move to the nearest safe location and follow official channels. Barak Ravid of Axios, citing a U.S. official, reported that Iran had launched drones against Bahrain.
Iran's Revolutionary Guards, in a statement carried by the state-linked Fars agency, said the operation is targeting the U.S. Fifth Fleet headquarters in Manama and the Ali Al Salem Air Base in Kuwait, and claimed it had struck 85 targets. The Iranian Revolutionary Guards cast the attack as retaliation for U.S. strikes on Iranian coastal sites.
