Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced that a peace deal between the United States and Iran has been reached, with both sides declaring the immediate and permanent termination of military operations on all fronts, including in Lebanon. Sharif, whose country has been mediating, said the official signing ceremony would take place on Friday, June 19, in Switzerland.
Sharif said mediators would facilitate a series of meetings this week to prepare for technical talks and the signing, and he thanked Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey for their roles. The announcement came as President Donald Trump said he planned to issue a statement imminently confirming a deal, though Iran had not publicly confirmed the agreement, and it followed a day in which Iranian officials threatened to withdraw from the talks and warned of retaliation over the Israeli strike in Beirut. Israel had not confirmed a ceasefire, and Home Front Command guidelines remained in effect.
