President Donald Trump said this morning's Israeli strike on Beirut "should not have happened," particularly with a peace deal with Iran so close, and called on all sides to stand down, in a post on Truth Social. Trump said Israel had the right to defend itself but that the attack it was responding to was "very small and meaningless," with nobody hurt, and should not disrupt the process. He said there should be no more attacks by Israel anywhere in Lebanon and no more attacks by any other party, including Hezbollah, against Israel, calling it potentially "the beginning of a long and beautiful peace."
