The U.S. Embassy in Baghdad issued an urgent security warning urging U.S. citizens in Iraq to maintain the highest levels of vigilance amid recent regional developments and warning that travel disruptions or airspace closures could occur suddenly and without notice. The embassy reminded citizens that Iraq remains under a Level 4 "Do Not Travel" advisory, stating, "Do not travel to Iraq for any reason. If you are there, leave now." The embassy said the U.S. Mission in Iraq was continuing its work despite implementing mandatory departure procedures for some staff, and that it would provide limited consular services to U.S. citizens who need assistance.
