Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir will personally lead a review of the gunman's infiltration from Lebanon into Israeli territory earlier today, the IDF said, citing the severity of the incident. The incident was reviewed earlier in the day by the head of Northern Command and the commander of the Galilee Division.
The initial review found that at around 1:30 p.m. a logistics soldier arrived in the area following a report of a fire and spotted a suspicious figure in uniform, prompting him to call in a combat force. The force that was dispatched encountered the gunman about 1.2 kilometers from the community of Margaliot, exchanged fire with him, and killed him. The body was found with a uniform, a handgun, and a long knife, and the military said his organizational affiliation could not be determined so far.
