Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu confirmed that the fighting with Iran is currently on hold and warned that Israel would respond "with force" if Iran resumed its attacks, in his first public statement since the escalation began nearly a day earlier. In a short recorded address in which he took no questions, Netanyahu said Iran and Hezbollah had tried over the past day to impose what he called a "new equation" that was "intolerable and unacceptable." "They thought they would fire from Lebanon and Iran at Israel and that we would not act. That did not happen, and it will not happen," he said, adding that he stood by Israel's right to act against its enemies.
Netanyahu said that after Hezbollah fired into Israeli territory he ordered the IDF to strike targets in Beirut, and that after Iran's missile attack he directed strikes on military and economic targets across Iran. He went on to say the fighting had paused after Iran halted its attacks, and referred to his "good conversations" with U.S. President Donald Trump, saying Israel was exercising its right to self-defense as required.
