In a Financial Times phone interview conducted before his call with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, United States President Donald Trump reportedly declared that Netanyahu has no say over any agreement Washington reaches with Iran. "I call the shots. I call all the shots," he said, adding that Netanyahu "won't have any choice" but to accept whatever deal the US reaches with Tehran.
Despite the evening's missile exchanges, Trump insisted the strikes would have no bearing on ongoing nuclear diplomacy with Tehran, describing the exchange of fire as part of a conflict stretching back decades. He told the outlet that a deal was still moving forward, saying "the deal may make it on its own merit, or not, but this will not have any effect on it."
Should talks collapse, Trump outlined two possible American responses: direct military action against remaining Iranian targets, or maintaining what he described as an exceptionally effective naval blockade, which he suggested may already be doing more damage to Iran than any strike could.
