Overnight, the US struck Iran's Qeshm Island in the Strait of Hormuz, with CENTCOM confirming the operation and local residents reporting explosions in the area. Iran's IRGC responded with missile and drone attacks targeting the US Fifth Fleet headquarters in Bahrain and an airbase in Kuwait, calling the strikes retaliation for the Qeshm operation. Bahrain's Interior Ministry activated warning sirens and directed residents to seek shelter, while Kuwait's military said its air defenses were actively intercepting incoming missiles and drones, clarifying that any explosion sounds were the result of interceptions.
CENTCOM said the Iranian strikes largely failed. Two missiles aimed at Kuwait fell short, three targeting Bahrain were intercepted by US and Bahraini forces, and a follow-on Iranian drone attack on US troops in Kuwait was also downed. No American personnel or assets were reported harmed, and US forces said they remain vigilant during the ongoing ceasefire.
On the maritime front, the IRGC said its navy struck a vessel identified as the Panaya, alleging the US had previously damaged an Iranian tanker near the Strait of Hormuz. CENTCOM separately disclosed that a US aircraft fired a Hellfire missile into the engine room of the Botswana-flagged tanker M/T Lexie after its crew repeatedly ignored warnings over a 24-hour period while attempting to reach Iran's Kharg Island. CENTCOM identified it as the sixth ship disabled since the US imposed a blockade on Iranian ports in April.
