Peace talks between the US and Iran remain deadlocked
By Sammy Tisser,
Peace talks between the US and Iran remain deadlocked, with Trump reportedly requesting changes to a proposed framework over the weekend centered on Hormuz shipping rights and Iran's enriched uranium stockpile. Iran's chief negotiator said Tehran would sign nothing that didn't fully protect Iranian interests. A ceasefire has held since April 8, but no permanent deal has been reached.
Against that backdrop, both sides traded strikes around the Strait of Hormuz over the weekend for the third time in a week. US Central Command said it hit Iranian radar and drone control sites on Qeshm Island and in Goruk after an American drone was downed over international waters. Iran's Revolutionary Guard responded by targeting the air base used for those strikes, warning any further aggression would draw a significantly stronger reply. Kuwait, which also hosts US forces, came under missile and drone attack Monday morning.
