The IDF and ISA have confirmed the elimination of Mohammed Odeh, Hamas's newly appointed military chief, in a strike Tuesday evening in Gaza City's Rimal neighborhood, the second time in eleven days Israel has killed the head of the group's military wing. The operation followed months of surveillance tracking Odeh and his operatives, with multiple sites struck including terror infrastructure he used as hideouts and a nearby apartment belonging to a Hamas operative who took part in October 7 and was part of his network.
Odeh had held the role for roughly two weeks, succeeding Izz al-Din al-Haddad after his elimination on May 15. Before that he headed Hamas's intelligence apparatus, bearing direct responsibility for planning and coordinating the October 7 infiltrations. Throughout the war he continued directing Hamas intelligence efforts targeting both IDF troops and Israeli civilians.
Netanyahu and Katz called Odeh one of the last senior commanders involved in both planning October 7 and managing combat operations since, describing his elimination as a significant blow to Hamas's rebuilding efforts and vowing Israel would reach everyone involved, "sooner or later."
