Israeli officials are signalling a major escalation in Lebanon following a Hezbollah explosive drone strike on a house in Metula earlier today. An Israeli source told i24NEWS, "We are going to change the equation, unequivocally." Channel 12 reported that Israel is preparing to expand military operations in Lebanon in the coming period, and Channel 13 reported that Israel is considering expanding the ground operation in Lebanon and is holding talks with Washington on the matter. The IDF has prepared what officials described as a "broad and significant" fire plan that is awaiting approval from the political echelon, with the military recommending the plan and stating it is ready for immediate execution.
A senior Israeli official involved in the limited consultations told Channel 12, "As of now, we are standing helpless in the face of a deadly reality, a real roulette. Improvised solutions on the battlefield, and improvisations without solutions in the political arena. Soldiers are dying because they are acting against their instinct to seek contact and are focusing on defence, civilians and property have become easy targets with cheap ownership and through a simple action." Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich stated earlier on Sunday, "For every explosive drone, ten buildings in Beirut should be brought down."
