US President Donald Trump announced on Truth Social that a deal to end the war with Iran has been "largely negotiated" and will be announced shortly, in the firmest statement he has made that he is prepared to agree to the memorandum of understanding being negotiated with Tehran. "Final aspects and details of the Deal are currently being discussed, and will be announced shortly," Trump stated. The president stated his call earlier on Saturday with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu "went very well." The announcement followed Trump's conference call with the leaders of Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Egypt, Jordan, Turkey, and Pakistan.
A US official briefed on the negotiations told Axios the deal was nearly finished but that gaps remained on the wording of several points. According to the official, the deal is designed to end the war, gradually open the Strait of Hormuz, and launch at least 30 days of more detailed negotiations on issues including Iran's nuclear programme. The latest draft emerged from the Pakistan-mediated talks led by Field Marshal Asim Munir in Tehran, with Qatari support over the past week and a push by Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and Turkey credited with narrowing the gaps between the parties, the regional source stated. Trump's advisers had previously believed they were close to a deal several times at earlier stages of the war, with none materialising. There has been no immediate confirmation from Tehran.
