The IDF cleared for publication moments ago the name of a reservist officer killed in southern Lebanon. Major (res.) Itamar Sapir, 27, a deputy company commander in the 7008th Battalion of the 551st Brigade, fell in combat in southern Lebanon. Sapir grew up in Eli and was a resident of Ariel, where he studied electrical engineering at the university. According to the IDF, Sapir was killed when a gunman opened fire on Israeli forces at around 09:45 from the area of a church in the village of Kouza in southern Lebanon. The attacker fired at forces operating outside the church compound and then fled, with troops continuing to search the area. Sapir is the eighth IDF soldier killed in southern Lebanon since the start of the ceasefire and the 21st since the start of hostilities with Hezbollah. A civilian contractor was also killed in southern Lebanon today.
