Axios reported moments ago that US officials expect President Donald Trump to make his next move on Iran immediately upon his return from Beijing, as the White House weighs military options to break the diplomatic deadlock. According to the report by Barak Ravid, two options are on the table: resuming Project Freedom with the US Navy moving to break Iran's hold on the Strait of Hormuz, and launching a new bombing campaign focused on Iranian infrastructure, as Trump has repeatedly threatened. Israeli officials told Axios that the Israeli military will be on high alert through the weekend in case Trump orders the resumption of the war, and that any such operation would be carried out in coordination with the IDF. Axios further reported that the Israeli government wants Trump to order a US Special Forces operation to secure Iran's stockpile of 60 percent-enriched uranium, but that Israeli officials say Trump remains hesitant to authorise the mission because of the risks involved. Trump confirmed elements of the framing himself before boarding Air Force One for China on Tuesday. "They'll either do the right thing, or we'll finish the job," Trump told reporters, dismissing the suggestion that rising US fuel prices were pressuring him toward a settlement. "I don't think about Americans' financial situations. I don't think about anybody. I think about one thing: we cannot let Iran have a nuclear weapon." Trump is scheduled to return from Beijing on Friday.
