Officials said fuel vapors over the Persian Gulf have reached a peak, and that "only a match or a misunderstanding" between the sides is now needed to collapse the truce and reignite the conflict. Approximately 6,000 American troops and security personnel are currently positioned in Israel.
Defense officials said Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates have over the past week sharply intensified pressure on the Trump administration. Gulf leaders are reportedly alarmed at the prospect of any U.S. drawdown from the region or a weak agreement with Tehran, fearing exposure to Iranian retaliation that could trigger a regional economic shock and weaken their regimes. A defense source said in closed conversations that "our target bank across Iran is growing and being updated daily. Despite the ceasefire, situational assessments between the IDF and CENTCOM are constant." The leading concern in the defense establishment is a chain reaction beginning in Tehran and ending with an attack on Israel. Multiple defensive and offensive scenarios have been presented to the political echelon. Officials assess that a return to direct fighting with Iran would trigger the immediate collapse of the fragile arrangement with Hezbollah, with Secretary General Sheikh Naim Qassem expected to fire missile salvos deep into Israel to demonstrate loyalty to the axis and derail the U.S.-mediated talks between Beirut and Jerusalem.
