Conflicting reports have emerged moments ago of a possible incident between Iranian and U.S. naval forces in the Strait of Hormuz. Iranian state media claimed that the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps struck a U.S. warship with two missiles. The U.S. Navy denied the claim, stating that no U.S. Navy ships have been hit and that American forces in the region remain engaged in supporting Project Freedom and enforcing the naval blockade on Iranian ports.
Iran's state-affiliated Tasnim news agency, quoting a "knowledgeable military source," said Iranian forces had fired "first shots" at U.S. combat vessels in the strait. The source said Iran is "fully prepared for any scenario" and that "the armed forces will not allow American combat forces to pass, just as in the 40-day war, and no movement through the Strait of Hormuz will take place without authorization from Iran's armed forces." The source warned that "all vessels must learn from the 40-day war and not pay the price of American foolishness," adding that Iran has additional contingency plans ready if needed. BNN was not able to independently verify either account.
