By Bernie,

The Israeli government today approved Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's proposal to establish a director-generals' team to complete and accelerate the fortification of communities in the north. The team will be led by the Prime Minister's Office, with participation from the Defense Ministry, the Housing and Construction Ministry, the Finance Ministry, the IDF Home Front Command, the National Security Council, and the Planning Authority.

The team has been given 21 days to formulate a detailed and budgeted plan for the completion and acceleration of private, public, and institutional fortification across the northern communities, after which the plan will be submitted for government approval. The plan will include an assessment of existing fortification solutions across the region, the establishment of implementation mechanisms and recommendations for multi-year budgeting, and an examination of combining building reinforcement against earthquakes. It will also formulate immediate solutions for public fortification and steps to remove barriers delaying implementation.
