Iran has rejected participation in the second round of U.S.-Iran talks, Iranian state news agency IRNA reported Sunday. Tehran cited what it described as Washington's "excessive demands, unrealistic expectations, constant shifts in stance, repeated contradictions," and the ongoing U.S. naval blockade, which Iran considers a breach of the ceasefire.
The rejection came shortly after Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif held a 45-minute phone call with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian to discuss the regional situation and diplomatic efforts. Sharif's office described Iran's earlier delegation to Islamabad, led by Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf and Abbas Araghchi, as "constructive and timely," and said the prime minister briefed Pezeshkian on his recent engagements with leaders from Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Turkey. The readout made no mention of Iran rejecting the talks.
