More details are emerging on the second round of U.S.-Iran talks expected to begin Tuesday in Islamabad. The U.S. delegation will be led by Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff, with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi expected to lead the Iranian side, according to Pakistani reporter Anas Mallick.
Vice President JD Vance, who led the U.S. delegation in the first round, will not attend. Trump told ABC News that the decision was made on security grounds, saying the Secret Service could not prepare on 24 hours notice. "It's only because of security. JD's great," Trump said.
Speaking to Fox News, Trump warned that this was Iran's "last chance" to reach a deal. "If Iran does not sign this deal, the whole country is getting blown up," he said, adding that he would not repeat what he described as the mistake of the Obama administration.
Iranian sources indicate that Tehran is demanding the lifting of the U.S. naval blockade as a precondition for participating in the second round. The issue is expected to be raised during a call between Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. Pakistan's Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar spoke with Araghchi on Saturday, emphasizing the need for continued dialogue. The current ceasefire expires April 21.
