An Israeli official said Thursday that IDF forces will remain deep inside Lebanon during the 10-day ceasefire and warned that the pause in fighting does not mean Israel will stop acting against threats on the ground.
The official said Israel reserves the right to strike at any emerging threat during the ceasefire period, drawing a comparison to Israeli operations in Gaza and in Lebanon prior to Operation Northern Arrows. "We will act not only against danger but also against an emerging threat and will attack it immediately," he said, signaling that the ceasefire does not amount to a free pass for Hezbollah to regroup or reposition.
The official framed the 10-day period as a window for Lebanon's government to demonstrate tangible progress on dismantling Hezbollah's military infrastructure. If Beirut fails to show results, Israel will take matters into its own hands. "If in the next 10 days the Lebanese government does not take practical action to dismantle Hezbollah, we will do so with great force immediately afterward," the official said.
The statement effectively puts a dual condition on the ceasefire: Israel will continue to act against immediate threats even while the truce is in place, and it expects visible movement toward Hezbollah's disarmament before the 10 days are up, or it will resume full-scale operations.
