An IDF source told BNN that forces operating in southern Lebanon have not been instructed to prepare for a ceasefire, contradicting a Haaretz report that Israeli troops on the ground had been asked in recent hours to prepare for a possible truce taking effect Thursday evening between 7 p.m. and midnight.
The source said that despite circulating rumors of an imminent pause, operations are continuing according to plan until any agreement is formally confirmed. The source indicated the current plan remains to advance to the Litani River.
Haaretz reported that the IDF is preparing for the ceasefire to come into effect Thursday night, following President Trump's announcement that Israeli and Lebanese leaders would speak today. A Lebanese political source told Haaretz that President Joseph Aoun refused to speak with Prime Minister Netanyahu as long as the IDF continues to attack Lebanon, citing broad domestic opposition. Al-Hadath reported that Aoun is insisting on a ceasefire before any negotiations begin.
Israel's security cabinet met Wednesday evening to discuss the possibility of a ceasefire in Lebanon but concluded without one in place, with several ministers voicing opposition and some calling for escalation instead.
