In strikes on Tuesday, the IDF said it eliminated a Hamas commander in the Gaza City area. Ahmed Abu Khdeira, a commander in Hamas's communications unit, was killed in a precise aerial strike. The military said he was involved in advancing imminent attack plans against Israeli forces and posed a direct threat to troops operating in the area.
In a separate strike earlier this week, the IDF said it killed two operatives in Hamas's production unit in the Gaza City area. Islam Hisham Riyad Kanita and Mahmoud Hamed Youssef Hamdouna were described by the military as key figures working to rebuild Hamas's military capabilities, including during the current ceasefire. The IDF said it took multiple measures to reduce the risk of civilian harm, including the use of precision munitions and aerial surveillance.
Southern Command forces remain deployed in the area in line with the ceasefire agreement, the IDF said, and will continue to operate against immediate threats.
